The couple have been married for around 18 years, before it was revealed that Baumgartner filed for divorce on 1st May 2023. They tied the knot back in 2004 and have three children together, two sons and a daughter.  The Yellowstone actor also has four older children from previous relationships.

When filing for divorce, Baumgartner stated irreconcilable differences as the reason and claimed they had split up on 11th April. The model and handbag designer requested joint custody of the couple’s children, which Costner agreed to.

There is reportedly a prenuptial agreement in place, and Baumgartner is understood to be entitled to a divorce settlement of $1.4 million. However, she is said to be contesting the agreement.

Public disagreements

Since the news of the divorce broke, there have been a series of bizarre claims made in the media about squabbles and legal wranglings between the famous pair.

This included a claim by Costner in June 2023 that his ex-wife refused to move out of their shared home. He said that as per the terms of the prenuptial agreement, she had 30 days to vacate – but the deadline had passed. A legal filing stated that the actor had contributed $10,000 towards Baumgartner’s moving costs, and a further $30,000 a month to pay for a rental property.

Baumgartner’s legal team responded with a filing stating that Costner:

"...seeks to kick Christine and their three children out of the house that the children have lived in for their entire lives."

"Although the legal basis for Kevin's request to kick his wife and children out of their home is all but nonexistent, this is still a matter of critical importance for Christine,"

Just days later, it was revealed that Baumgartner had requested $248,000 a month in child support, a demand which Costner described as “highly inflated and unsubstantiated”. He had reportedly agreed to pay $38,000 a month along with other costs. At the time of writing, Costner had reportedly been ordered by a judge to pay $129,755 a month in child support.

In July, a judge ordered Baumgartner to move out of the couple’s $145 million home. Costner also successfully made a request to block his ex from removing certain items from the property.

According to the signed order, she was not not permitted to take "any other items of property including, but not limited to, furniture, furnishings, appliances, and artwork."

Costner is also said to have reduced Baumgartner’s credit card limit, claiming that she had charged over $100,000 to divorce lawyers and forensic accountants on the card. He also requested that his former spouse pay his legal fees in relation to her challenge of the pre-nuptial agreement.
