The 37-year-old British actress, known for her breakout role in 2016’s The Neon Demon and for portraying Anne Boleyn in a three-part drama series of the same name, is understood to have been the one to submit the divorce papers to Los Angeles Superior Court. However, neither Turner-Smith or Jackson have publicly spoken about the news of their split.

The news came as something as a surprise to the press, and the couple’s fans, as they were recently photographed together during New York Fashion Week. But numerous sources have started coming forward to news and gossip outlets in the US, to offer their views as to why the marriage is coming to an end.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, a source reportedly said:

“Jodie and Joshua’s hectic work schedules started to weigh on their relationship starting over a year ago when they were both filming projects and not always in the same place,”

“They tried to make things work and were taking steps to help their relationship and deal with managing their busy schedules. From an outside perspective, things looked great for a while, but privately, they were slowly growing apart.”

“They are trying to be amicable as they move forward with their divorce and trying to avoid any feelings of animosity,”

“They’re both respectful of each other and focused on co-parenting their daughter. They want to have a positive relationship for her sake and for themselves.”

A separate source speaking to the UK’s Daily Mail suggested that 45-year-old Dawson’s Creek star Jackson, who hails from Vancouver in Canada, doesn’t actually want to separate. He’s reportedly “heartbroken” about it.

The source said:

“He always thought that he would be married and grow old with his family, and everything would be happily ever after,”

“He had the dream scenario in his mind, and Jodie was his person and the person he thought he would be with forever.”

“He would have loved nothing more than to still be with Jodie and in a perfect world would probably even take her back if she were to stop the divorce, but now that they have got to this place, he is going to have to accept it.”

2023 has been a big year for headline-making celebrity divorces, especially for recently married couples.

The likes of Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, and Britney Spears and Sam Asghari have all gone their separate ways over the last few months. In all three of these examples, the marriage has lasted less than 5 years.

In the case of Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez, the pair only tied the knot in 2021. Britney Spears’ marriage lasted for an even shorter period, as the pop megastar and now-estranged husband Sam Asghari only married in June 2022.
