Mark Pincus is the founder of Zynga, an online games platform that is now said to be worth over $1 billion. He was the CEO of the company until 2016, and is also known for being an early investor in social media giants such as Facebook and Twitter. Pincus is now said to be worth $1.28 billion. His wife of nearly nine years, Alison Gelb Pincus, is the creator of home décor business One Kings Lane that recently sold to Bed, Bath and Beyond for a reported $30 million. The couple have three young children together, twin girls and a boy.

According to reports, divorce papers were filed just a few weeks ago by Mrs Gelb Pincus. The couple have not publicly commented to the press, but the reason for the split has been cited as “irreconcilable differences”. The pair are also understood to be seeking joint custody of their children.

Prenup challenge potentially causes upset

Apart from the vast amounts of money involved in this particular divorce case, not to mention complicated issues over property and potentially custody concerns, the most notable feature of the divorce filing involves a prenuptial agreement. The Pincus marriage nine years ago took place with a pre-nup signed and sealed, but Alison Gelb Pincus is reportedly asking the court to nullify it now that the couple are separating.

Mrs Gelb Pincus is challenging the agreement as she says that her estranged husband’s net worth sky rocketed during their marriage, so she will presumably argue during the case that she is entitled to more of their shared assets and his wealth than the pre-nup states. It is believed that although Mr Pincus was already wealthy going into the marriage, he is not willing to pay any of his wife’s attorney fees.

A widely-circulated source, which claims to be close to the couple, has said of the case:

“Mark is incredibly difficult, he’s super tough and in Mark’s world, everything revolves around him. This isn’t about money, they both have enough, and nobody else is involved.”

With such large amounts of wealth and assets to be divided, and with a challenge to the pre-nuptial agreement on the table, there are likely to be more twists and turns to come before the Silicon Valley power couple are legally separated.
