Reality star Kim Kardashian West is the petitioner in the case, filing for divorce at the Superior Court of California County of Los Angeles. In court documents filed on 19th February 2021, Kardashian West cites irreconcilable differences as the legal grounds for divorce and asks for joint legal custody of the couple’s children.

Kardashian has appointed celebrity divorce specialist Laura Wasser to represent her. Wasser previously handled the star’s previous divorce to professional athlete Kris Humphries back in 2013.

Kardashian and West married in May 2014 in a lavish Italian wedding, but rumours of relationship problems have emerged over the last year or so. They have four children together, named North, Chicago, Saint and Psalm.

According to entertainment news website TMZ, both parties are “committed to co-parenting together” after the divorce.

Kardashian West prenup – who gets what?

The divorce between the celebrity couple is reportedly worth an enormous $2 billion, according to a now-famous prenuptial agreement. The details of the Kardashian West prenup have been widely publicised, with press worldwide speculating on the couple’s vast personal and combined wealth.

Rapper and fashion designer Kayne West is believed to be worth more than $1.2 billion, while the Keeping up with the Kardashians star and businesswoman has an alleged net worth of $900 million.

The prenup agreement reportedly outlines how their money and assets will be split, although it’s not completely clear if all the details are accurate.

Kim Kardashian will reportedly receive $6million in cash, a million for every year of the marriage. She’ll also retain ownership of the couple’s Bel Air mansion, which is under her name but West is understood to have paid for most of the property.

Unsurprisingly, it’s understood that the TV personality will also get to keep all the gifts her famous husband has given her since they tied the knot. This includes a $2 million engagement ring, Mercedes-Benz SUV worth $227,000 and a hand-painted Hermes handbag with a $40,000 price tag.

Kardashian will reportedly keep all her earnings from her clothing and beauty businesses, which includes KKW Beauty, SKIMS shapewear and the Kardashian clothing line. She will also remain the beneficiary of at least one of her ex’s life insurance policies, even after the divorce is finalised. This is believed to be valued at $20million.

As for West, it’s been reported that he will most likely keep both of the couple’s shared $14 million ranches in Wyoming. One of the properties, Monster Lake Ranch, is a huge 1,400 acres and has its own event venue, restaurant and saloon.

West is also expected to keep most of the couple’s long list of assets, including the profits from his Yeezy clothing line and their Palm Springs home.

However, the couple are understood to be in settlement talks at the moment. If the prenup isn’t as clear-cut as has been reported or the pair haven’t kept certain assets separate, things could become very complicated indeed.
